Kirk Barger returned to Calvary Baptist in 2011 after several years of ministry away from CBC in order to pastor the church he considered his home. Kirk first came to CBC in 1986 with his wife Annette where he served at the church in many areas of ministry. During that time Kirk and Annette grew under the ministry of Dr. Roderick Smith who served at CBC for 26 years. In 2010 Pastor Smith retired as the Senior Pastor and the church called Kirk and his wife back from their ministry as missionaries in Norway in order for Kirk to serve as Senior Pastor.
Kirk served as the Youth and Music pastor at First Baptist Church in Goshen, Indiana from 1997-2000. It was in 2000 during a mission’s conference that Kirk and Annette felt the Lord leading them into full-time missions in Norway. Kirk and family raised the needed funds and, in 2003, headed to Norway where they spent the next 8 years serving under ABWE. During their first term, Kirk helped pastor the English speaking International Baptist Church and developed several new Norwegian speaking ministries at IBC—Bible studies and a teen club. Then from 2008-2011, he worked with a Norwegian pastor in a new church plant.
Kirk is a graduate of Grace College in Winona Lake, IN with a B.A. in Biblical Studies (1985). He also completed his Master of Arts in Ministry from Grace Theological Seminary (1996). He is currently completing his Doctorate of Ministry in Biblical Counseling from Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, PA. Kirk is also a NANC (National Association of Nouthetic Counseling) certified counselor and has been counseling for 12 years.
Kirk is married to Annette (Kelly). She is also a graduate of Grace College and they have four children and one grand-daughter. JoyLynn (1984) is married to Matthew Nesbitt from Goshen, IN. They have one daughter, Jade Louise. Ryan (1987) is married to Alejandra Gomez from Honduras. Melinda (1990) lives in Grand Rapids. Landon (1992) attends Purdue University.
Greg and his wife Joan have been ministering at Calvary for over twenty years. Prior to their coming, Greg was a youth and education pastor in Huntsville, Alabama. He is an adjunct professor at Grace College and Seminary teaching courses in Bible, theology and Greek exegesis.
Initially graduating from Indiana University with a B.A. degree, he went on to graduate from Grace Seminary with an M. Div., and Columbia Evangelical Seminary with a research Doctorate in Theology. For fun he enjoys reviewing theology textbooks for Zondervan Publishers for use in the classroom, Evangelical Theological Society meetings, running (generally when the weather is nice), flying (now out of the business world ONLY when the weather is nice), rebuilding motorcycles, Greek Grammar, and those many Bible studies and discussions with people here at Calvary Baptist Church.
Greg has had the privilege of teaching in several countries in Africa and Europe, and even got to preach once or twice through an interpreter on one of Calvary Baptist’s mission trips to Brazil. The Lord had Greg and Joan serving in the world of private and corporate investment finance for fifteen years all over the eastern United States when finally, after much prayer, He allowed them to settle in full time here at Calvary.
Joan was attending Grace College when she met Greg who was at the Seminary at the time. They were married, and now have three wonderful daughters who love the Lord. Erin attends Purdue University where she is heavily involved in ministry while studying dietetics; Emily and Sarah are in high school and looking to get involved in ministry at Purdue as well in the very near future.
